It has been a busy year here in Dunboyne Senior Primary School.
Have a read about some of the many sporting activities from during the year:
Athletics:
Pupils in the school competed in cross country and track and field events during the year. We held trials in the school and picked representatives for the school team. We had successful trips to Fairyhouse and Navan for cross country events. We also attended a track and field day in Claremont Stadium, Navan.
Hurling:
We competed in the Mini 7s hurling competition in the autumn. We won our regional event and competed well in the county finals. In the spring our school hurling team competed in division 1 in the Cumann na mBunscol league. The team was comprised of boys from 5th and 6th class. We were very proud of their efforts during the league campaign.
Boys Gaelic:
The Cumann na mBunscol league for 6th class boys began in September. The panel played six games in Division 1 of this competition. 30 boys represented the school excellently, making great improvements from game to game.
Since Easter, 4th and 5th class boys have been playing an in-school tournament on Thursday afternoons. It has been great to see over 60 boys participating, developing their skills and enjoying themselves.
Boys Soccer:
Boys soccer began in January, with over 40 boys playing in-school games on Monday afternoons up until Mid March. It was fantastic to see the effort they put in and the enjoyment they got out of these games. 16 of these boys were lucky enough to get the chance to represent the school at the FAI Schools Primary 5s competition at the MDL Grounds in Navan in March. The boys gave a great account of themselves at this event.
Girls’ Gaelic:
The 6th class Girls took part in the Cumann na mBunscol competition where they acquitted themselves very well in Division 1, competing closely in every game whether winning or losing. The girls also played in the Mini 7s competition, playing well in every game.
Our 4th and 5th class girls have been training and then playing a school competition in the last eight weeks. The 6th class girls have been managing and running the competition and it has been a huge success.
Camogie
The girls competed in the Cumann na mBunscol competition against other schools. Camogie training continued into May and June. It now includes many of the younger classes. This is a great opportunity for the girls to work on their skills as the evenings get longer.
The Blake Cup
We were delighted to take part in this year’s Blake Cup on Monday and what a fantastic day we had! Massive congratulations to our two teams who won the Blake Cup and the Blake Shield.
The Blake Cup is an annual mixed seven aside tournament held in the Dunshaughlin GAA Grounds. The tournament was the brainchild of former St Seachnalls Principal Mr Gilligan and the cup itself is named after Dunshaughlin GAA stalwart Paddy Blake. His granddaughter Naoise presented the medals to the children on the day.
Thank you to St Seachnall's NS and Dunshaughlin GAA for organising this fantastic event.
