We celebrated Space Week in our school from the 7th to the 11th of October. There were a wide range of activities held in the school to mark the occasion.
We were delighted to welcome back Thomas Holmes to our school. Thomas has kindly volunteered to facilitate Science Workshops with our students for the last number of years. This year Thomas held a Space Week workshop with our 3rd class students. He talked to the children about how far the moon and the sun are from the earth. He also discussed how far some of the stars are from the earth. Thomas then completed a number of experiments with the children.
4th Class students got creative and designed some satellites, rockets and space stations.
5th class students took part in a very exciting Kite Workshop during Space Week. They learned about the Lunar Landing, Artemis NASA Moon Mission and comparisons in the history of space travel. They then worked on creating and building their kites and had great fun flying them outside.
David Moore from Astronomy Ireland held a workshop with 5th and 6th class students as part of Space Week. The talk covered topics such as planets and their moons, comets and other Solar System objects, and our home galaxy, the Milky Way.
Have a look at some of the beautiful artwork and constructions that our students created.
